About the role

We are seeking a Research Technologist to work in a behavioral neurophysiology laboratory. This lab uses advanced multi-electrode recording techniques to study the function of neurons in the rodent hippocampus and related areas in spatial cognition, learning and memory (see https://sites.krieger.jhu.edu/knierim-lab/ for research description). The research technologist will assist with general laboratory maintenance, as well as experiments conducted by graduate students or other lab members.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Training rats in behavioral tasks.
  • Assisting in collection of data; analysis of neuronal firing data; maintenance of experimental records.
  • Assistance during surgery.
  • Routine histology.
  • Fabrication of electrodes and electrode drives.
  • Ordering lab supplies.
  • Upkeep of rodent housing facility (daily animal feeding/weighing, cage maintenance, drug administration, health checks)
  • General lab maintenance.


Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • General wet lab skills.
  • Rodent handling and training in behavioral tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proficiency with computer programming languages, such as Python, Matlab, or C++ is desirable.
  • Must have the patience and willingness to follow directions and receive proper training.
  • Fine-motor skills, dexterity, and attention to detail is required.


Physical Requirements 

  • Able to lift or carry 25 lbs. Standing or walking around in the experimental room for up to 2 hours.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience or related field.
  • Prior experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Programming experience.

Role/Level/Range: ACRO40/E/02/CC  
Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $21.00 - $26.25 HRLY (Commensurate with experience) 
Employee group: Full Time 
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week. Some weekends required 
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
