We are seeking a Research Technologist to work in a behavioral neurophysiology laboratory. This lab uses advanced multi-electrode recording techniques to study the function of neurons in the rodent hippocampus and related areas in spatial cognition, learning and memory (see https://sites.krieger.jhu.edu/knierim-lab/ for research description). The research technologist will assist with general laboratory maintenance, as well as experiments conducted by graduate students or other lab members.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Training rats in behavioral tasks.
- Assisting in collection of data; analysis of neuronal firing data; maintenance of experimental records.
- Assistance during surgery.
- Routine histology.
- Fabrication of electrodes and electrode drives.
- Ordering lab supplies.
- Upkeep of rodent housing facility (daily animal feeding/weighing, cage maintenance, drug administration, health checks)
- General lab maintenance.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- General wet lab skills.
- Rodent handling and training in behavioral tasks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Proficiency with computer programming languages, such as Python, Matlab, or C++ is desirable.
- Must have the patience and willingness to follow directions and receive proper training.
- Fine-motor skills, dexterity, and attention to detail is required.
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift or carry 25 lbs. Standing or walking around in the experimental room for up to 2 hours.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
- Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience or related field.
- Prior experience in a laboratory setting.
- Programming experience.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70 - $21.00 - $26.25 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)
Employee group: Full Time
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week. Some weekends required
