Overview:

Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster, LTD is seeking a Full-Time athletic trainer for one of our local schools. The athletic trainer has the potential to work with athletes of all skill levels and ages.

About:

Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster LTD has contracts with 13 local high schools, 4 colleges, 1 professional team, and PA Classics. Elizabethtown College is a member of the NCAA Division III and the Landmark Conference and offers 24 NCAA varsity sports.

 

Summary/Objective:

 

The Head Athletic Trainer will manage and mentor a team of athletic trainers. The candidate shall demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and collaborative skills, working closely with other athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, athletic administrators, and sport coaches to support the health, safety, and performance of Elizabethtown College student-athletes and advance the overall mission of both organizations. The candidate will also work closely with Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster’s physicians and other healthcare professionals when advanced medical care is needed.


Responsibilities:

  • Promotes the mission and values of both organizations.

  • Provide services directed toward achieving increased functional independence, decreasing functional limitations, and prevention of injuries to the individual patient/athlete.

  • Upon the advanced advice and consent of a physician, carry out the practice of prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, disposition, treatment, and/or rehabilitation of injuries. 

  • Perform evaluations of injuries, follow standing orders for treatment, management of the injury or refer the athlete to a physician.

  • Provide education in the prevention of injuries, conditioning, and rehabilitation of injuries.

  • Document evaluative findings, treatments that were administered, the patient assessment and the patient’s treatment plan.

  • Clean and maintain treatment area and workspace.

  • Provide emergency care within the Athletic Training scope of practice.

  • Provides leadership, supervisors, managers, and coordinates the schedule of associate athletic trainers, student athletic trainers, and student workers.

  • Oversee the selection, purchase and maintenance of all athletic training equipment and medical supplies while working within the parameters of the department’s budget.

  •  Update annually and maintain the Sports Medicine Emergency Action Plan.

  • Schedule and provide daily coverage for all practices and competitions, per the NCAA concussion guidelines, including some travel responsibilities as determined by the Director of Athletics.

  • Ability to work in a wide variety of settings.

  • Effectively communicate with the patient/athlete, family, physician, and/or coach regarding the patient/athlete`s injury and his/her ability to return to work/practice/competition.

  • The athletic trainers will adhere to College policies and procedures. The athletic trainers will also participate in College provided professional development when requested.

  • All athletic training coverage will be coordinated with the head athletic trainer who is overseen by the Director of Athletics.
