About Tanglewood 

In 1940, the Berkshire Music Center (now the Tanglewood Music Center) began its operations. Home to the famous Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the site of one of the world’s best-known music festivals, Tanglewood hosts the Festival of Contemporary Music, along with many other events including concerts of various genres from jazz to pop. Today, Tanglewood annually draws over 350,000 visitors. Each season offers not only a vast quantity of music, but also a vast range of musical forms and styles, all of it presented with a regard for artistic excellence that makes the festival unique. 

   

Job Responsibilities 

  • Assist in hiring the Lawn & Wheelchair Attendant Staff (see descriptions for those jobs on the Tanglewood jobs page).  

  • Train the staff in assisting Tanglewood patrons with the lawn chair / cushion rentals and transporting patrons to around the Tanglewood grounds in wheelchairs.  

  • Become proficient in the sales method for lawn chair rentals and train the staff. 

  • Schedule the wheelchair and lawn chair rental staff for each concert.  

  • Manage the team of Lawn Chair & Wheelchair Attendant staff during concerts so that they are assisting guests in the most efficient manner.  

  • Keep accurate records of staff work times.   

  • Provide strong leadership, create a positive working environment, and support a team dynamic among the staff. 

  • Train staff in Customer Service skills and maintain the highest levels of service for Tanglewood attendees. 

  • Work with Tanglewood Facilities to keep the wheelchairs in proper working order.  

  • Manage payroll for all Lawn and Wheelchair Attendants. 

Required Education and Experience

Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.  

  • Have excellent customer service and leadership skills, be able to remain thoughtful and courteous under pressure. Must be patient and be able to handle the general public under difficult conditions.   

  • Be organized and be able to create staffing schedules over a busy season.  

  • Must be able to lead a team of around 20 part-time staff members.  

  • Must be comfortable interacting with patrons with mobility needs.  

  • Must be able to push at least 200 Lbs. in a wheelchair, and must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.  

  • Customer service and retail experience a plus.
