JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the assigned supervisor, the Senior Library Associate is responsible for delivering quality customer service that exceeds patron expectations. Senior Library Associates are responsible for performing all duties in support of day-to-day operations of the
Library Department assigned. The person holding this position is adept at processes within the assigned department and assists in the oversight of daily operations. The person holding this position is support staff to senior management and acts as supervisor in the absence of the Library Manager and/ or department supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
● Performs daily branch opening and closing procedures; Ability to open and close
branches as supervisor.
● Ability to problem-solve issues and implement library policy and procedure as required;
elevates issues to senior staff as necessary.
● Ability to manage circulation or reference services for the branch and/or assigned
department.
● Prepares, runs, and completes needed library reports; ability to oversee and assign work
to solve issues.
● Ability to supervise projects from start to finish; assists senior staff with ongoing
departmental projects.
● Ability to supervise shelving and collection maintenance, including, but not limited to:
assigning others to shelve, straighten shelves, weeding projects, item repair, etc.
● Ability to provide assistance with information inquiries and requests; guides customers
to appropriate resources and instructs in their use; assists and advises customers in
making effective use of library services, materials, computers, library catalog and other
reference tools.
● Markets Library materials through timely, relevant displays; trains staff on marketing
library materials through displays.
● Develops and implements library programming appropriate to assigned department;
ability to train and supervise junior staff on library programming.
● Performs cash handling.
● Provides assistance in the use of electronic resources; provides assistance in the use of
basic computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.).
● Provides assistance/troubleshooting with the use of public fax machines, computers,
printers, and photocopiers.
● May act as Person-In-Charge in the absence of senior staff, as assigned.
● Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
● Requires a Bachelor’s Degree; three (3) years of experience in customer service or
library-related setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
● Experience working in a library or educational environment is preferred.
● Familiarity with today’s public libraries (services, materials, and programs).
● Familiarity of Integrated Library System (PINES preferred).
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid driver’s license and insurability required.
