Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs and manages operations, planning and development of the Emory Enterprise storage and critical infrastructure to include high performance computing and electronic medical records systems.
  • Ensures the infrastructure provides the centralized fiber attached (SAN) and network attached (NAS) storage critical to enterprise-wide applications and systems.
  • Owns the enterprise storage and data protection strategy and multi-year roadmap, including lifecycle management, capacity forecasting, technology refresh planning, and the evaluation of emerging solutions both on premise and in cloud-hosted environments.

  • Oversees storage-based offsite replication and the enterprise data protection infrastructure.
  • Manages people resources and processes to administer day-to-day operations.
  • Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities to facilitate career development.
  • Ensures direct and indirect reports have documented career goals and detailed plans for achieving these goals to develop these individuals professionally.
  • Conducts performance evaluations consistently and fairly to facilitate open communication and encourage continuous performance improvement.
  • Manages team compliance with division policies and procedures to meet ITIL and enterprise requirements and expectations.
  • Provides technical expertise to support team collaboration for resolving issues and meeting customer expectations.
  • Interacts with division resources to promote the department's role and to ensure adherence to IT governance and ITSM processes for achieving enterprise-wide efficiencies.
  • Evaluates and summarizes departmental metrics to measure performance and forecast future needs.
  • Conducts regular meetings with EHC IT staff to review and clarify current and future storage needs.
  • Acts as storage team project planning representative to provide technical feedback and to ensure storage team resources are available.
  • Interacts with University and Healthcare central IT, departments, and researchers to provide solutions to non-OIT organizations and supports a consultative engagement model for intake, design, and delivery.
  • Provisions storage to maintain application availability.
  • Manages vendor breaks and fixes to maintain storage and application availability.
  • Monitors storage health to maintain application availability.
  • Monitors storage utilization to ensure storage inventory availability for routine application growth.
  • Monitors data protection operations and capacity to maintain application recovery options.
  • Conducts routine vendor meetings to maintain partnerships with the enterprise's major vendors.
  • Negotiates storage purchases to achieve competitive pricing.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in IT or a related field and seven years of relevant IT experience including demonstrated technical expertise in specific IT areas, project management skills and lead or supervisory experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Extensive experience in the implementation and production support of an enterprise system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated hands-on technical leadership—willing and able to engage directly with the technology to troubleshoot, validate designs, and partner with healthcare and university engineers on complex production strategy and deployments.
  • Demonstrated competence and strong working knowledge of storage and data protection in AWS (e.g., S3, EBS, FSx, AWS Backup, and Storage Gateway).
  • Demonstrated competence and strong working knowledge of storage and data protection in Azure (e.g., Azure Blob, Azure Disk, Azure File, Azure NetApp, Azure Backup concepts).
  • Ability to architect cost-effective and efficient data mobility patterns between on-prem resources and cloud providers developing hybrid data management approaches.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise data protection strategy and operations, including Dell/EMC Data Domain (PowerProtect) and related backup, replication, retention, and recovery practices—driving lifecycle governance aligned to business needs.
