About the Position

The Probate Accounting Review Specialist ensures the integrity of the accounting for conservatorships, trusts and descendent estates filed with the Superior Courts of Maricopa County, Probate Division. In this role, the successful candidate will use their attention to detail to review, monitor, and audit the management of assigned cases and provide written reports to the Court and other interested parties detailing their findings.

Position Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Legal, or a closely related field

OR

Combined Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • A combination of related education or general accounting, financial, bookkeeping, or auditing experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis

  • Experience working at the Judicial Branch may substitute on a year-for-year basis

Our Preferred Candidate Has:

  • Two (2) or more years of professional accounting or auditing experience

  • Working knowledge of the courts, finance, probate, trusts, fiduciary, and/or conservatorships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of: 

  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), theories, and practices

  • Proper auditing standards 

Skill in: 

  • Utilizing established accounting and auditing operating procedures related to accounting standards, applicable laws and regulations, and the Court’s Accounting Guidelines

  • Professional writing 

  • Computer applications – Microsoft Office Suite and accounting system software 

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Ability to: 

  • Plan and conduct reviews, to include reviewing and evaluating accounting records and statements 

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with judicial officers, court staff and the public

  • Learn Probate accounting, legal procedures, and policies

  • Learn and apply Arizona Rules of Probate Procedure, state laws and other policies applicable to Probate Court and related to the laws governing conservatorships

  • Work independently

  • Create written reports to explain complex accounting scenarios in a clear and concise manner

  • Critically analyze accounting and legal procedures to convey accurate recommendations and findings

  • Work in a fast-paced environment; assume a high level of ini
