General Responsibilities
Responsible for coordinating and monitoring the activities of the Distribution Specialist team, ensuring individual member goals are achieved in support of assigned team goals. Interpret and communicate organizational directives and apply them to the team and individual objectives. Act as a liaison, representing the team and interfacing with the departmental managers. Participate in recruiting and training to ensure specialists are equipped to meet BWW and departmental goals. Provide input to management regarding individual team performance. Participate in the development of training programs regarding new products or services. Intercede on incoming telephone calls with difficult customers and calls requiring in-depth knowledge of the Birmingham Water Works services. Perform duties of the Superintendent in their absence.
Essential Job Functions
- Guide employees in handling difficult complex problems or in resolving escalated complaints.
- Oversee employees’ daily performance by discussing job performance to identify issues and train employees.
- Provide new hire training and origination by facilitating side-by-side coaching.
- Assist the superintendent and manager with performance reviews by providing feedback on the Distribution Specialists’ performance, accuracy, professionalism and quality of work.
- Manage daily workforce management metrics to ensure the team meets the Distribution department requirements.
- Work with the maintenance (leak) team to restore customers’ water service quickly.
- Work with other departments to convey information effectively when correcting customer times and service resolutions

- Communicate fire outages and service interruptions as needed.
- Maintain all records of transactions within the department.
- Create, file and maintain the vendors’ assignments list.
- Create requisitions and purchase orders in the SAP system to confirm that workflow requirements meet departmental guidelines.
- Maintain permits and paving assignments to ensure proper follow-up and completion
- Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management.

Education
Education:
Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Experience
Experience:
Five (5) years of customer service, clerical or administrative experience required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. SAP/ERP system knowledge preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid driver’s license required
- GO Leadership Development Program completion within 12 months of the promotion date
