As a Principal Application Engineer with Discover’s SCRA team, you will work with business partners and engineering teams to build, maintain, and scale specialized product offerings for US veterans and active-duty servicepeople.  By partnering with enterprise-wide teams, you’ll develop and maintain full stack solutions that fit our business needs. You’ll use your holistic view of all products (and their interactions) to design elegant solutions and strategize the future state of our larger technical ecosystem. By independently innovating and advocating for best practices, you’ll solve complex problems and guide the team on implementing solutions from inception to production. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

Responsibilities

• Creates solutions addressing high impact technology and business priorities
• Competent in multiple contexts, including programming languages, security, automation, testing, and business domains and is the go-to person for many people (inside and outside of their team)
• Participates in strategic technology decisions and learns how these decisions impact Discover as a whole
• Proactively identifies and mitigates issues based on intuition and experience in multiple domains
• Coaches' technology communities at Discover
• Remediates issues using engineering principles and creates proactive design solutions for potential failures
• Documents detail level design specifications and code changes

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

• Bachelors – Computer Science or related
• 6+ Years -- Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related
• Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale

Preferred Qualifications

Bonus Points If You Have:

• 4+ years of experience in Java
• 2+ experience with front end development
• Experience with Open Shift (OCP) or Kubernetes is a plus.
• Experience with React is a plus
• Experience in BPM-related technology (i.e. Activiti, IBM BAW), including process design and mapping, process development with BPM APIs, process monitoring.
• Experience in Rest API, CSS, Ajax services, Spring Framework, Angular/React, NodeJs, and other Java script technologies.
• Experience in DevOps and build tools using Jenkins, Gradle, Github., Nexus and SonarQube and other code coverage tools.
• Experience in application development, applying core design and development principles involving Business Process Management and Web application development.
• Good knowledge with Agile, Scrum methodology.
