JOB SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, the Student Success Services Assistant plays a crucial role in fostering the academic, social, and emotional growth of students. Ensures students receive the necessary support to thrive in their educational journey. Plans and provides supportive services to high school students. Collaborates with faculty, staff, administration, parents, and students for student success. Maintains regular scheduled time to meet with students. Assists students in building study skills and self-discipline needed to complete their studies successfully. Assists in the collection and use of student data. Informs parents/guardians of student progress and seeking their assistance in meeting student needs.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Academic Support: Collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents to identify students who may be struggling academically and develops personalized intervention plans. Offers study skill strategies and academic resources to help students improve their performance in school. Monitors students working on credit recovery. Oversees student support room. (60%)
- Individual Mentoring: Provides one-on-one mentoring sessions to students to address academic and social emotional issues. Assists students in setting and achieving academic goals, managing stress, resolving conflicts, building resiliency, and making informed decisions about their education and future. Advocates for the needs of students within the school community and beyond. Serves as a liaison between students, teachers, administrators, and parents to address concerns, develops support plans, and promotes a positive school culture. (20%)
- Record Keeping: Maintains accurate and confidential records of student interactions, mentoring sessions, academic progress, and intervention plans. Uses data to track student outcomes, identifies trends, and evaluate the effectiveness of support services. Complies with all reporting deadlines (10%)
- Professional Development: Stays informed about best practices in student support services, counseling techniques, adolescent development, and relevant educational policies. Participates in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences to enhance your skills and knowledge. (5%)
- Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned (5%)
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate’s degree in a Human Services field with 3 years or more experience in a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or Student Services (preferred).
- Understanding of varied student learning needs and the State/Federal laws protecting them; (i.e. Students with Disabilities and English Language Learners)
- Proficient use of technology applications and student information systems;
- Microsoft office suite, FOCUS, Adobe, etc.
- Multifaceted role requires a combination of counseling, mentoring, advocacy, and administrative skills to address the diverse needs of students Ability to function effectively with multiple priorities; organized and demonstrate effective time management.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, be self-motivated, and work effectively on a team.
- Strong initiative to promote student success.
- Flexibility and creativity in problem solving.
- Effective written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Requires occasional evening, weekend or other flexible scheduling of duties as specified by the Clark Advanced Learning Center’s Executive Director/Principal or designee.
- Typical working hours for this position are: Monday through Friday between 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
