Project/Unit Description
GTRI provides direct technical expertise to the Department of the Air Force (DAF), United States Space Force (USSF), and United States Space Command (USSPACECOM) organizations in the area of Space Operations, National Space Security, Program Acquisitions, Operational Test and Evaluation, and Research and Development (R&D).
Provide technical support to the Program Executive Office for Command, Control, Communications, and Battle Management (PEO C3BM) and Space Systems Command Space Systems Integration Office (SSC/SSIO) in the area of space system architecture design and space sensor orchestration.
Provides technical support to USSPACECOMs Space Technology Analysis Group (STAG). Performs cross-cutting analysis on strategic issues on the conflict in space at the request of the USSPACECOM Commander. (I’m working on getting a better description of the STAG).
Job Purpose
Engage in the research, design, development, construction, testing, science and technology of aircraft and spacecraft. Pertaining to the study of science behind the forces and physical properties of aircraft, rockets, flying craft, and spacecraft. Perform physical experimentation on aerospace systems and components of aerospace systems. Handles computational modeling of aerodynamics, performance and control of aerospace systems. May also cover aero-acoustic experimentation and modeling and propulsion testing and modeling.
Key Responsibilities
- Programmatic and technical lead (as principal investigator, co-PI, or technical task lead)
- Direct or perform highly specialized tasks in area of expertise
- Lead and contribute to the development of whitepapers and proposals to support multiple programs
- Engage with sponsors and potential sponsors representing research programs
- Primary author of technical reports/presentations of projects, journal articles, and conference presentations
Additional Responsibilities
- Interfaces between GTRI and the United States Space Force (USSF), Space Systems Command (USSF/SSC), and USSPACECOM organizations in Colorado Springs, Boston, and El Segundo.
- Provides technical expertise on space operations, space sensors, satellite systems, and other space-related topics, as requested by the USG.
- Provide support to the GTRI Colorado Springs Field Office (COSFO) as directed by the Field Office Manager
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Proven track record of success in supporting military space projects and programs. At least 10 years supporting R&D efforts for USSF, USSPACECOM, or AFRL.
- Familiarity with engineering tools like STK and experience using them to model space warfare scenarios.
- Must have current TS/SCI, with Special Program Access eligibility
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the mission and organization of the Department of the Air Force (DAF), USSSPACECOM, USSF, and the various organizations that provide guidance and advice to its leaders.
- Familiarity with USSF’s space acquisition processes and programs
- Familiarity with Air Force Modeling & Simulation tools and processes.
