About This Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer.
The Software Development team at Cascade Energy is responsible for building and maintaining Gazebo, our custom energy management and monitoring system. Gazebo collects and processes data from a variety of sources, including monitoring devices installed at customers’ sites. This data is used to generate both static and interactive reports used by Cascade staff and our customers to monitor energy use and savings, and to track the impact of energy management initiatives. Gazebo also provides a project management and resource distribution platform that allows Cascade staff, customers, and other organizations to generate and track energy management tasks and share documentation and training materials.
A Senior Software Engineer is strongly focused on the consistent and reliable delivery of new and updated software. Team members in this role will be expected to take on complex development tasks in multiple sections of our software. Software engineers in this role are also responsible for supporting the software engineering team as a whole by providing high-quality feedback during code review and by offering support to other team members about how to approach problems and manage complexity.
What You Will Be Doing
• Collaborate with other developers in the solution design and implementation process through joint design sessions, pair programming, and pull request comments, providing feedback and support to others that leads to improved standards and approaches
• Delivers quality code consistently and in a timely manner, including the ability to make large scale changes autonomously and do green-field development with some support
• Participate in the peer review process for code quality and standards, both as a learning mechanism as well as providing thoughtful feedback and comments for others
• Work effectively in a creative, dynamic team using modern software development methodologies
• Participate in customer service, deployment, and ops rotations effectively

This is a full-time, exempt position located in Portland, OR. We are also open to non-Portland candidates with a willingness to travel occasionally. Minimal travel is anticipated for this role.
Qualifications
Applicants for this role must have:
General Experience
• 6+ years of experience as a software developer, with full-stack experience
• Expertise in React (front-end) and AWS (cloud services, infrastructure)
• Strong experience with back-end technologies like Node.js, TypeScript, or equivalent
• Ability to design and build applications from scratch, as well as maintain existing ones
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and containerization
• Strong analytical skills with experience in dashboard creation and data analytics
• Familiarity with database design and optimization
Mentoring & Leadership
• 1+ year of experience in leading teams and projects
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically
Additional Expectations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact effectively with a range of stakeholders
• Strong work ethic with a customer service approach to both internal team and external clients
• Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, diagnose, and provide resolution to issues
• Desire to learn and the ability to grasp technical concepts and domain knowledge around decarbonization and energy efficiency and management quickly
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile environment

Compensation & Benefits

The hiring target for this position in Portland, Oregon $102,000 - $127,000/year. However, the final salary offered may vary depending on non-discriminatory factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experiences, internal pay equity, and geographical location if different than the above.
