Tech, Field Route Design (I, II, III)

Perform various duties as instructed within the network with regards to fiber route planning, engineering, route mapping, site surveys, field data capture, permitting and record keeping.  Must work within a team environment, under the most stressful circumstances, respond well to direction and correction from fellow co-workers and supervisors.

Note: This position may be filled as a Technician, Field Route Design I, II or II depending on experience.

• Perform OSP field engineering
  • One-off FTTC and FTTB lateral builds (will include locate training to find “tie-in’s”).
  • Customer Premise lateral builds following signed TSA
  • FTTH fiber hand-off’s or small “feeder” builds
  • COLOs and Metro builds from fiber meets
  • Meet with other company’s representatives for fiber meets
  • Wheel or GPS for ROW or running line placement
  • Gather all field data needed for CAD team to produce drawings
  • White line or flag route for City’s as needed
  • Work with various entities to assist in relocation or in the field design changes
  • Communicate and advise with other entities for coordination of fiber placement or moves
  • Audit hand holes and other assets in the field for accuracy
• Create MOPs for Construction activities
  • Plan “through” all facets of each OSP project
  • Approve plan through dependent department managers
  • Produce MOP and confirm with Splicing & Project Manager personnel
  • Revise MOP and distribute to OSP Construction and OSP Project Management
  • Include building entry MOPs where applicable
  • Track and report progress of each project through the entire OSP process
• Assist in conversion from Google to TNI in-house mapping server
  • Assist in GPS related verification of plant for accuracy
• Assist in implementation and maintenance of OSP inventory module
  • Constant & ongoing verification & revision of records from what is found in the field

Qualifications

• Level I
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess 2 years of work experience related to the Outside Plant field telecommunications and construction industry.
  • Must possess a high degree of interpersonal skills.
• Level II
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 4 years work experience related to the OSP telecommunications and construction industry.
  • Must have working knowledge of all types of Outside Plant construction.
  • Must possess a high degree of interpersonal skills. 
• Level III
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 6 years work experience related to the OSP telecommunications and construction industry.
  • Must have working knowledge of all types of Outside Plant construction.
  • Must possess a high degree of interpersonal skills. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:Must be able to lift 65 pounds and work with various hand tools. Must be able to sit for long periods and use computer keyboard and/or mouse while viewing computer screen. Must be willing to work flexible schedule, which could include travel, nights and weekends.
