General Summary
Provides direct supervisory oversight to pharmacy staff. They are integral in initiatives that support the department's individual staff members and foster growth and development through education. They also ensure ongoing department compliance with regulatory requirements and competency. They may complete or be involved in staff member's annual evaluations and provide ongoing feedback. They also have the expertise and advanced knowledge to be viewed as a system expert in either an operations or clinical domain. Additional aspects of the position include potential for participation in departmental scheduling needs, department and system interdisciplinary committees, professional development, and performance improvement initiatives, as well as leadership development and training.
This system-level Pharmacy Supervisor role provides leadership and coordination for the health system’s Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) while supporting additional clinical pharmacy initiatives as assigned. The position works collaboratively across pharmacy, medical staff, microbiology, and clinical leadership to promote safe, effective, and evidence-based antimicrobial use. This position is ideal for a pharmacist with a strong interest in antimicrobial stewardship who is seeking a leadership role with system-wide impact beyond direct patient care.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and coordinate antimicrobial stewardship activities across the health system, supporting system-wide consistency and best practices
- Develop and maintain system antibiograms and empiric antimicrobial treatment guidelines
- Collaborate with physician and pharmacy leadership to guide, monitor, and improve antimicrobial utilization and stewardship initiatives
- Analyze and report antimicrobial stewardship program outcomes, including antimicrobial utilization metrics and resistance trends
- Partner with Microbiology to support cascading susceptibility reporting and optimize microbiology data use
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and quality requirements related to antimicrobial stewardship
- Support education and training initiatives for pharmacy staff, including pharmacokinetics education for new hires
- Manage and optimize clinical pharmacy surveillance and stewardship software platforms
- Collaborate with the Clinical Pharmacy Leadership Team on additional system-level clinical initiatives, projects, and priorities as assigned
This role requires strong clinical expertise, system-level thinking, data interpretation skills, and the ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary stakeholders.
Common Expectations:
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
- Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
- Bachelors Degree Pharmacy Bachelor’s Degree. Required
- Doctorate Doctor of Pharmacy. Preferred
Work Experience:
- 5 years Hospital experience and completion of PGY-1. Required and
- 2 years Hospital experience and PGY-2 residency. Required or
- 7 years Hospital experience or equivalent management experience. Required
Licenses:
- Licensed Registered Pharmacist Upon Hire Required
Courses and Training:
- Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS) certification. Upon Hire Preferred
