Essential Functions

1. Serves as a working supervisor and manages the activities of the Radioactive Materials Licensing program:

  •     Establishes objectives and goals to be achieved.
  •     Assigns applications to be evaluated by staff and ensures that assignments are completed in compliance with current agency standards and procedures.
  •     Evaluates, on a continuing basis, accomplishments of licensing staff to ensure program goals are met.
  •     Monitors the performance of assigned staff.
  •     Prepares, conducts, and signs performance evaluations.
  •     Develops and reviews procedures and policies to improve operations

 

2. Evaluates radiological health aspects of applications for highly complex new uses of radioactive materials for which there are no established agency criteria and which require substantial judgement to resolve:

  • Analyzes operational capabilities of new equipment entering the state to assure compliance with Agency requirements and national standards
  • Evaluates and approves complex applications for the manufacture, distribution, and disposal of licensed materials, conducts pre-licensing evaluations of highly complex radiation installations and radioactive material licensees.

 

3. Evaluates the manufacture and integrity of radiation sources and devices in accordance with regulations and national standards.

 

4. Plans and directs training programs and prepares technical reports:

  •     Makes presentations to agency staff, professional groups, other agencies and local government and public groups.
  •     Consults with technical staff or other agencies and facilities regarding radiation protection, personnel dosimetry, and dose reduction techniques and radioactive effluent monitoring control.

 

5. Conducts inspections of radiation installations and radioactive material licensees, and determines compliance by using specialized test equipment and radiation measuring instruments:

  •     Interprets laws, regulations, and policies.
  •     Makes recommendations for reductions of potential health hazards.
  •     Prepares technical reports and correspondence relative to inspection results.
