At Arlo, we power health plan innovation. Our mission is to bring more affordable health insurance to small and medium-sized businesses across the US. We’re building a modern insurance technology stack to help innovators build better health plans — from innovative underwriting and risk analysis models to seamless API integrations with modern distribution channels and automation of claims operations. We enable third-party administrators, employee benefits consultants, and regional health plans to offer competitive, novel health insurance products. Our technology aligns incentives through better risk sharing, and we are unlocking value-based care in the commercial health insurance market.
Role
As Senior Data Scientist, you will own the development and iterations of Arlo's underwriting model, from statistical concept to code implementation to continuous monitoring of the outcomes. You will work closely with our founders and head actuary to bring cutting-edge statistical techniques to health insurance underwriting. You will have access to an industry-leading medical and prescription drug claims data dataset (300m+ people), and you will be building large-scale data pipelines and prediction models on top of it. You will also be working closely with Arlo's data infrastructure team to help design and advance Arlo's data and analytics infrastructure.
Our tech stack consists of Python, PySpark, SQL, Snowflake, Scikit-Learn, and other tools.
Qualifications

1. Highly Analytical: You have a degree in a quantitative science field or, even better, a graduate degree. You will be spending time developing distribution models and solving statistical challenges.
2. Autonomy: You like to work with a high degree of autonomy, you know how to break a complex problem down into tasks and how to prioritize what things need to get done first.
3. Passion: You enjoy working on challenging problems and go above and beyond. You care about your work and enjoy being intellectually challenged. You want to solve problems in health care and insurance.
4. Business Impact Understanding: You are able to explain how your statistical modeling and analysis links to the broader business goals of the company and you are able to conceptualize data science projects that will support our business goals.
5. Ownership: You don't just want to work on Jira tickets but want to own your work product and have it make an impact. You're thinking beyond the technical challenge in how your work links with Arlo's mission.
6. Track record working on complex analytical problems: You bring 2-5 years of experience as a data scientist or comparable role working on analytical problems. You have built production-ready machine learning pipelines and written high-quality code.
7. The extra: It's a plus if you have worked with claims data, worked at an early-stage startup, or have experience with risk and probability distribution models.

Compensation Range$160,000 - $210,000/ year+ equity compensation
The final compensation will greatly depend on your experience and interview performance.
