Job Description

Brightspeed has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Network Engineer to join our team! As the Principal Engineer on the Network Architecture team, you play a critical role with regards to optimization of our copper architecture. You will partner directly with the Director of Network Architecture to make the strategic and daily operating decisions that go into optimizing our copper network solutions.

This role will help ensure cross-functional collaboration, and organizational performance and help team members deliver on KPI.  Additionally, in this role, you will ensure the DSL Expresse platform is functioning as expected. New features and enhancements may be required to ensure we are providing the best customer experience in the areas that are still served by copper facilities.

This role will also be responsible for ensuring we have consistency across our copper and fiber-based network elements and the data that gets reported into our Data Lake. This role will ensure each network element is reporting data and that the Data Lake is able to ingest.

The Principal Network Engineer reports directly to the Manager Network Architecture but will also require daily collaboration with all the Operations Support & Innovation leadership team.

As the Principal Network Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will include:

• Subject Matter Expert on the deployment of copper-internet services including HSI, VDSL, VDSL2 etc.
• Sole responsibility for ensuring our network elements are reporting data into our Data Lake
• Subject Matter Expert to ensure the DSL Expresse platform is optimizing DSL circuits and providing the best customer experience
• This role will be assigned to the Network Optimization program and will identify, solution, implement changes to be made to our “legacy” network to increase revenue and reduce operating costs
• This role will meet with Operational teams to ensure concerns are addressed and cared for in the optimization methods
• Defect/Enhancements will be worked back with vendor and tested through lab

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Telecom Network design and deployment
• Strong expertise in Brightspeed’s network
• Strong experience in DSL Expresse/GPON Expresse
•  Great communication skills to work cross-functionally with teams to drive deliverables
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products, specifically PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
• Great presentation skills and able to summarize deep, complex issues into executive-level material

BONUS POINTS FOR:

• Any previous examples of similar roles/support documents
• Experience in SaskTel O2 inventory platform
