Position Description
The Deputy Assessor oversees the assessment function for Anoka County, ensuring accurate classification and valuation of all parcels of property in compliance with Minnesota’s complex classification laws. This role involves developing and maintaining mass appraisal systems to ensure equitable property valuations across the county.
The Deputy Assessor is responsible for managing and directing the property assessment process for Anoka County, ensuring compliance with state mandates, and promoting equitable property valuations. This includes the statutory oversight responsibilities in situations where municipalities may employ City or contracted Local Assessors. This role requires analyzing and resolving complex issues with a deep understanding of county objectives, particularly within the Property Records and Taxation Department. The Deputy Assessor develops and implements mass appraisal systems to ensure consistent property classification and valuation. Additionally, they lead team activities, delegate assignments, and oversee work plans to meet departmental goals while holding full authority over personnel decisions such as hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. This position also involves collaborating on the development and execution of county policies to support the organization's mission and objectives.
The Deputy Assessor’s decisions directly affect the county’s financial operations, timelines, and activities. Errors in judgment could result in increased costs, delays, and risks to critical county operations. This role demands strategic thinking and a deep understanding of county objectives to drive consistent and accurate assessments.
This is a full-time, exempt, benefit-eligible position, and is located at the Anoka County Government Center. Interviews will take place the week of March 9th, 2025, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.
Pay & Benefits
- Hiring range $111,113 to $133,307 annually ($53.42 to $64.09 per hour).
- 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 40: $111,113 to $155,500 annually ($53.42 to $74.76 per hour).

Work Location
This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave. Anoka, MN 55303.
This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
Expected work hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

Manage the mass appraisal of all property types countywide. Ensure property examinations and evaluations establish a fair market value for taxation.
Monitor performance of on-site inspections to determine condition of property. Investigate the fair market value and property ratings through analysis and inspection of properties.
Manage the physical inspection of all parcels of property throughout the county to ensure equalization between County Assessed & Locally Assessed jurisdictions.
Review and evaluate the statistical performance of the mass appraisal system and provide guidance as to where improvement could be made.
