Job Description

GSK is currently looking for a Sr. Microbiology Specialist in Rockville, MD. In this role, you’ll support management of laboratory operations, quality actions, lab testing, and data review associated with GSK production facilities. In addition, the job holder has expertise in QC Microbiology, and provides guidance, training, and sharing of knowledge to personnel within the group and across departments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Is a SME for specific tasks required by the team
• Leads and/or serves on team projects as needed
• Reviews testing results as needed
• Writes, reviews, and approves microbiological lab investigations, deviations, change controls, protocols, reports.
• Writes, updates, reviews, and approves Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, and References.
• Assures that laboratory equipment is calibrated and in good working condition, purchases supplies and equipment.
• Responsible for ensuring laboratories are operated in a state of control with regards to current LSOP’s, GMP’s and regulations and Microbiological SME for internal and external regulatory audits and inspections.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

• BA/BS in a scientific discipline
• 5+ years industrial experience in biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical industry, such as Microbiology, Biology, or related field experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

• Experience in industrial microbiology, with specific expertise in at least one area of microbiology testing.
• Successful track record of leading projects with an intra-departmental scope
• Project managing skill is preferred
• High level of job independency is expected for this role.

The annual base salary for new hires in this position ranges from $95,700 to $159,500 taking into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate’s skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role. Available benefits include health care and other insurance benefits (for employee and family), retirement benefits, paid holidays, vacation, and paid caregiver/parental and medical leave.
