Job Description
Dewberry is seeking a Senior GIS Professional in our Richmond, VA office. This position will support a wide array of geospatially-enabled efforts in the southeast and mid-Atlantic supporting energy, commercial and economic development. Candidates will have strong competencies and demonstrated experience with geospatial data management, map development of all kinds, data queries, process improvement, standards & process improvement and the desire to lead a small but growing team of young dedicated GIS professionals.
Candidates will have strong skills with proficiency in a range of important tools such as ESRI ArcGIS technologies (including ArcGIS Pro, AGOL & field collection software).
This position will mostly focus on implementing advanced GIS techniques and processes to support production efforts in support of clients for Energy and Economic Development related projects in our Richmond, VA office. Responsibilities
- Work on consulting projects for energy, local, private and economic development clients
- Support large scale geospatial data gathering, data managing and data presentation projects spanning multiple years as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
- Perform analysis of current processes, provide recommendations for improvement and implementation of solutions;
- Ensuring standards and practices that are developed are implemented across projects and team members
- Checking for technical accuracy of GIS and geospatial deliverables and associated reports;
- Coordinating with the project team, project managers, clients, local communities, and other contractors to compile all data necessary to produce the most up-to-date product
Required Skills & Required Experience
Must have experience that demonstrates a strong background in application of GIS and skills to execute efficient solutions. The candidate should have strong organizational skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and work independently and as a team player.
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or related field.
- 7 years of experience in the GIS Field.
- Experience or interest in leading a small team of GIS professionals that is integrated in a multi-discipline practice
- Advanced skills using Esri ArcGIS Pro 3.X and ArcGIS for Desktop 10.8X
- Deep understanding of coordinate systems, projections and transformations
- Advanced cartographic skills for both desktop and web-based maps
- Experience / knowledge in geospatial programming using Python.
- Ability to understand the big picture of a project and how that relates to the GIS tasks at hand
- Desire to push the boundaries of GIS on projects, when appropriate
- Enjoys challenging GIS tasks
- Exceptional visual, written and verbal communication skills
- Interest and ability to educate and promote GIS and geospatial technologies Interest and ability to develop overarching GIS solutions that can be consistently applied to various projects that are innovative
- Interest in keeping up to date on emerging geospatial technologies

- Familiar with a variety of the GIS profession concepts, practices, and procedures.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
