About the role

Description

The PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Resident is a pharmacist who will complete postgraduate education with established pharmacists in the HealthNet Federally Qualified Health Centers. 


Administrative

  • Maintains communications with the pharmacy department, administration, the medical staff, nursing departments, and other clinical departments to ensure compliance of pharmacy services.
  • Plans, implements, and monitors programs with data and analyzes methods of improving compliance and performance of those programs. 
  • May serve as project lead on a variety of projects with a broad range of complexity requiring coordination of integrated efforts and may serve as liaison for department to research, troubleshoot and resolve issues of significance to compliance. Examples of "major projects" include (but are not limited to): 340B, planning and implementation of new information technology, involvement in major project planning and oversight from a front-line staff perspective, leading establishment of pharmacy-related services, etc.

Strategic Thinking/Planning

  • Develops and implements strategies and processes that compliantly align with HealthNet’s goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates visionary skills with the ability to develop, articulate and implement business plans. 
  • Works to identify cost-saving or revenue-generating initiatives. Understands legal, regulatory, risk and compliance issues, health policy-making processes, and reimbursement issues.

Drug Therapy

  • Confers with practitioners, nursing, and others in a timely manner for any questions or any irregularities regarding medications.
  • Performs clinical/ambulatory care and retail pharmacist functions as assigned. Serves as a pharmacist member of HealthNet’s P&T Committee.
  • Participates in medication usage evaluations (MUEs) as needed. Ensures proper handling of medications before administration. Evaluates and implements changes as needed related to medication safety.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making skills concerning patient drug therapy; uses good problem-solving skills; demonstrates the ability to assess a situation, research additional information if needed, and make an appropriate, informed decision or recommendation; shows confidence in making decisions

Professional Effectiveness

  • Stays up-to-date with current state and national developments and regulations related to pharmacy and health care administration and operations.

Initiative and Adaptability

  • Requires limited supervision of other pharmacists to carry out responsibilities. 
  • Able to adapt to changes in acuity and/or census and effectively manage workflow. Shows interest in becoming involved in project work and completes work in a timely manner. Offers assistance to peers as needed. Remains flexible during staffing challenges.

Education

  • Participates in educational opportunities. Provides education on medications or medication-related procedures to providers and staff as requested or as outlined in area specific duties.
  • Provides education to HealthNet employees about the compliance with pharmacy services and programs.
  • Completes assigned annual competencies.

Supervision of Support Personnel and Students

  • Supervises pharmacy staff, technicians, residents, students, interns and support personnel involved in pharmacy related tasks.
  • Holds team members accountable to departmental and HealthNet policies and procedures.

Technology

  • Remains current with automation technology (e. g., dispensing systems, drug information resources, etc.). Demonstrates competence in performing computer functions.
  • Reads electronic mail in a timely manner.
