Base Pay Range: $146,829.00 - $212,616.00

Position Summary
We’re looking for an Optical Engineer (OE) to join our New Product Development group, in which you’ll work within a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment to design, develop, maintain, and improve, and design products across our wide range of product lines.
This position reports to the Engineering Manager II.
What You’ll Be Doing

Key Responsibilities
- Design optical systems and / or subsystem(s) for new industrial sensors based on LED, laser, radar, and future sensing technologies
- Research and prototype new technologies
- Modify and enhance new products based on customer feedback
- Support customer applications by verifying application feasibility or investigating application issues
- Learn Banner technologies, processes, and product lines
- Support product development efforts within cross-functional teams
- Verify performance through component, subassembly, and sensor level testing
- Stay current in best OE practices for metrology and analysis
- Confer with Banner’s Purchasing department and outside vendors to qualify optical components
- Occasional travel to remote production facilities as needed
- Other duties as assigned

Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Physics
- 8 plus years of experience in product design for industrial applications
Preferred
- Strong understanding of Geometrical optics, Physical optics, Imaging systems, and Laser optics.
- Strong analytical and statistical skills such as conducting tolerance analysis and optimizing system performance.
- Working knowledge of optical design and analysis software such as Zemax.
- Experience with optical metrology such as profilometry, spot size measurements, focal length measurements, and spectroscopy.
- Basic electronics (testing and schematics) and mechanical (GD&T and drawings) knowledge.
- Familiarity with optical fabrication processes, particularly injection molded plastic and glass lenses.
- Experience working with suppliers.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Able to travel up to 10% to remote production facilities.
