(DoD SkillBridge) Spacecraft Operations Technician

About the role

Position Description

Serco is proud to support transitioning service members through our partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program. We are seeking a Spacecraft Operations Technician to join our team supporting the FROST program at Schriever AFB in Colorado Springs, CO. This opportunity provides hands-on experience in satellite operations, serving as a bridge between your military service and a potential civilian career in space systems engineering.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Support satellite operations including testing and on-console activities during launch, early orbit, and long-term mission phases.
  • Plan, configure, and monitor ground communications and execute satellite pass plans.
  • Review and interpret telemetry, report anomalies, and advise leadership on recovery actions.
  • Establish and manage data, messaging, and voice communications across multiple satellite systems.
  • Monitor and configure system displays for hardware and software in real-time environments.
  • Troubleshoot end-to-end communication and system anomalies, escalating as necessary.
  • Generate documentation including downtime reports and participate in engineering reviews and problem boards.
  • Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements for operations processes.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Level 2: High school diploma and 2 years of relevant experience OR Associate’s degree with 0 years of experience.
  • Level 3: High school diploma and 4 years of experience OR Associate’s degree with 2 years of experience OR Bachelor’s degree with 0 years of experience.
  • Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance with an adjudicated polygraph.
  • Experience conducting satellite operations in a real-time environment using the Satellite Control Network.
  • Familiarity with satellite ground systems, including software, hardware, and network architectures.
  • Proficiency with UNIX and Windows systems.
  • Willingness and ability to support shift work including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Ability to distinguish red, blue, and green colors on a monitor.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and process documentation skills.
  • Experience monitoring satellite systems and responding to anomalies.
  • Willingness to work onsite at Schriever AFB.

Additional desired experience and skills:

  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort operating intercom and phone systems.
  • Background in simulation platforms and space system operations.
