About the role

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine as a Cardiac Sonographer II in the Pediatric Heart Station Department at our Comer Children's Hospital.

 

Under general direction, the Cardiac Sonographer II performs all aspects of echocardiographic imaging for clinical and research purposes under the general supervision of the Medical Director of the Noninvasive Cardiac Imagining Laboratory. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare patients for cardiac ultrasound examinations. Performs complete cardiac ultrasound examinations and stress testing. Uses ISCV digital archiving system for measurements.

  • Performs examinations in adherence to the department objectives and policies.

  • Communicates with patients and fellow employees in a professional and supportive manner

  • Helps train Cardiac Sonographers at Level 1

  • Actively participates in process improvement activities

  • Involved in research and publications to be at the cutting edge of the field

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent 
  • Accreditation with ARDMS or CCI. Passed boards.
  • From 5 to 10 years experience required in ultrasound procedures equipment, CW Doppler, and related anatomy and pathological conditions of the heart, valves, pericardium, and blood vessels.
  • BLS certification through The American Heart Association and Registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) and pass the registry within one year of hire.
  • Prepare quantitative echocardiographic measurements for reporting.
  • Interpretation skills to facilitate a comprehensive examination and an accurate preliminary interpretation
  • Independently perform a complete transthoracic examination with appropriate use of contrast when necessary.
  • Computer literate in order to work with applicable software.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for checking orders and obtaining orders for testing.
  • Performs complete cardiac echocardiograms, stress testing, as well as assists with 2D transesophageal examinations.
