The Student Success Coach (SSC) is a full-time staff professional at the Miami Regional Campus, reporting to the Regional Director of the Tutoring and Learning Center and working closely with other student support offices. The SSC will be an integral leader in implementing specific student retention and early intervention initiatives at Miami Regionals. The SSC will work closely with students and other support staff within the student support services unit. The SSC will combine their diverse experience within student support at higher education institutions and a desire to remain current on current research and best practices.Job Description
The Student Success Coach (SSC) responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Student Tutor Coordination: Implement the Regional Campus tutoring and academic support programs. Including coordinating the administration, hiring, and supervision of student tutors, supplemental instruction/embedded tutoring facilitators, and student mentors for individual and group tutoring and academic support services. Assist the Regional Director with the hiring and administration of professional mentors and tutors. Serve as a tutor for students, as needed. Coordinate the Student Study Group program by following up with students and instructors interested in forming study groups for specific courses. Create a vision to support the EAB Study Buddies feature. Continue to build the embedding tutoring offerings.
Navigate EAB Liasion: Lead efforts in the TLC to enhance the utilization of Navigate EAB, including, but not limited to, student appointment management (i.e.-tutoring, mentoring, etc.) and retention efforts (i.e.- Early Alerts, Progress Reports, etc.). Create needed reports to capture the progress of the TLC.
Student Retention Efforts: Serve as the coordinator of Academic Progress Reports/Early Alerts and assign the appropriate case managers to support students. In conjunction with Academic Advising, facilitate an intervention process designed to provide students on probation or academic warning with the tools necessary for academic recovery. Provide high-level academic recovery plan to support academically at-risk students, connecting them to peer or professional tutors and mentors or other sources. Assist the Regional Director for the TLC with the creation and maintenance of a professional mentoring/tutoring program that supports student success. Teach up to 4 hours of TLC-supported courses an academic year, including but not limited to TCE110R-Study Skills and/or UNV 101 - I Am Miami
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree; Two years of experience working in a student support capacity, such as advising, academic coaching, tutoring or instruction, or first-year experience programming. Experience gained during a related graduate program can apply (graduate experience is prorated; 1 semester of an assistantship is equivalent to 2.25 months of full-time experience).
Consideration may be giving to candidates with experience with tutoring or teaching in the natural sciences. Experience with curriculum development or course instruction. Experience working with students who may be at risk of not completing a college education. Experience with Banner, Work Day, PeopleSoft, EAB/Navigate/Starfish, and/or Canvas. Experience in Google/Gmail suite of applications, Microsoft Office Suite of applications, and a basic knowledge of social media. Experience with applying student success research and best practices to the retention of college students.
