Position Summary

The Energy Transition Study Project Manager  will lead multi-disciplinary teams, across one or more preliminary front end engineering or feasibility studies globally, with clients ranging from major energy companies to specialist project developers.  In most cases, provides the main interface with the client’s project team, and will work collaboratively to achieve desired outcomes, building strong relationships and cultivate new opportunities. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Deliver preliminary engineering or feasibility studies for existing customers.
  • Lead proposal teams, to win new studies/projects.
  • Leading multi-discipline teams delivering conceptual, feasibility, and front end engineering studies and projects (hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and/or SAF, and/or e-Fuels).
  • Kick-off meeting and liaison with client.
  • Ensure studies are scoped correctly and managed to agreed timelines.
  • Technology interaction with licensors and definition of offsites & utilities.
  • Preparation/oversight of study process deliverables
  • Coordination of other front-end engineering deliverables: plot plans/preliminary 3D models; equipment data sheets; online diagrams; controls strategy/specifications; etc.
  • Coordination of Constructability, Schedule and Cost Estimation elements.
  • Oversight of final report; facilitate Management Review; and deliver to client.
  • Facilitate pull-through of opportunities to support Bechtel FEED / EPC activities.
  • Lead specific project/study proposal teams, in interface with Business Development, Proposals, Subject Matter Experts, Commercial, & Functions in response to customer RFPs and/or Early Engagements to develop winning technical and commercial proposals/bids.
  • Define resourcing needs/solutions/strengths to meet Scope of Work requested
  • Produce study budgets and schedules to suit specific client requirements.
  • Travel up to 1 week/month ; potential for longer term relocation to project/client sites.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Advanced Engineering Degree (Masters or PhD) from an accredited university (process or chemical related preferred).

 

Additonal Qualifications:

  • Experience in hydrogen, ammonia and/or methanol, and/or SAF or E-Fuels feasibility and preliminary engineering studies.
  • Supervises the engineering, procurement and projects controls activity on a small size project or designated portions of a medium or complicated project.
  • May exercise operational supervision over all assigned disciplines.
  • As directed, manages the complex organizational interactions that evolve from the participation of several Bechtel entities on the project or from client-established relationships with other contractors. 
  • Establishes and maintains access to technical experts in the technologies pertinent to the project and sets up channels of communication to bring this expertise to bear effectively on the study effort.
  • Requires a broad knowledge of process engineering.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in study/project engineering processes and procedures, including trade-off studies, value improvement practices, risk analysis, estimate and schedule development.
  • Solid planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with electrolysis and/or syngas production (biomass gasification, waste to energy gasification, Auto-thermal Reforming) and/or Fischer-Tropsch conversion / product upgrading, and/or ammonia synthesis.
