Freelance Real Time Hair Artist

Nexus studios are seeking a talented Real-Time Hair Specialist to join our innovative team working at the intersection of computer graphics and machine learning. This role will focus on helping the team to develop our hair system as a supporting part of our work stream. We’d be looking to create a stylised output with high performance in real-time applications. As a Real Time Hair Artist,  you will work closely with the Studio Lead and Technical Director teams to ensure the final look of characters aligns with the creative vision of the projects. This is a R&D project, so a dynamic, adaptive and fast paced approach is preferable.

Requirements

What you’ll be doing 

Your focus will be on developing hair, utilizing industry-standard tools and techniques to achieve stylised results. Your artistic abilities will be challenged as you strive to elevate the visual quality of our productions while optimising for the technical hardware. 

Collaboration is key in this role, as you’ll partner with the Technical Director and Studio Lead to experiment with techniques and approaches to create a library of hairstyles that are derived originally from machine learning models. We need someone who is fast & adaptive. We’re looking for a problem solver who can problem solve and take on a technical challenge. 

What you’ll bring

• Proven experience as a Groom Artist or in a similar role within the animation or visual effects industry.
• Strong portfolio showcasing a range of hair styles
• Proficiency in DCC (Maya, Blender) and Adobe suite (Photoshop, Substance Painter and Substance Designer)
• Solid understanding of character modeling, shaders, and textures.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments while maintaining high-quality standards.
• A keen eye for detail with a creative mindset focused on achieving visually stunning results.
• Strong time management skills and the ability to meet project deadlines.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and a positive attitude that fosters teamwork.
