Summary:

The Child Life Intern is an integral part of the child life team.  This intern is responsible for supervised involvement in the planning and implementation of a developmentally and emotionally supportive therapeutic program for children and adolescents in the healthcare system. The student incorporates assessment, play, preparation, emotional support, and family involvement to enhance the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical well-being of children and families in the health care setting. The child life intern collaborates with child life specialists, as well as other health care providers, to promote growth and development and to facilitate positive adjustment for patients and families through the healthcare experience. The student actively participates in initial orientation and ongoing guidance and evaluation by the child life staff to enable him/her to meet program objectives during the 16 weeks of their internship.  Duties and Responsibilities:  All tasks will occur under the supervision (direct or indirect) of a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS).

Qualifications:

  • College senior, graduate student, or college graduate required.
  • A minimum of 100 hours of direct experience interacting with well children, who are typically developing, in group settings
  • Direct experience with children and families experiencing stress, crisis, or trauma with emphasis within a healthcare setting.
  • Validation of coursework. Completed Association of Child Life Professionals Eligibility Assessment indicating ACLP approval of at least 10 courses.
  • Applicants are required to have a strong academic background in child development
  • Must be eligible to sit for the Child Life Certifying Exam upon completion of internship.
