Overview:

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. Our diverse capabilities span a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines, enabling the Laboratory to explore fundamental science challenges and to carry out the research needed to accelerate the delivery of solutions to the marketplace. We seek to hire a Director to lead Learning, Engagement and Development (LEaD) at ORNL. In this position, you contribute to ORNL’s success by advancing the development of our most important resource – our people.

 

About the job:

The LEaD Director will design and implement an overall strategy for employee growth, current and future leadership development, and organizational capability enhancement. The Director will ensure alignment with Lab objectives and organizational needs while integrating leading research and proven best practices to achieve optimal learning. The

Director will drive learning effectiveness through the development and deployment of blended solutions to enhance leadership and productivity, drive performance, and promote rapid and engaging knowledge/skill assimilation and application.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a Talent Development strategy that will grow, develop, and support an inclusive and diverse workforce community, directly aligned with laboratory goals and objectives. 
  • Drive effective succession planning to create continuity and stability for future business planning and also foster growth and development for our strongest talent. 
  • Provide direction, advice, and counsel to the Chief Human Resources Officer and the ORNL leadership team.
  • Define, build and sustain a knowledge management framework.
  • Design learning solutions to improve talent effectiveness including feedback & coaching, emotional intelligence, communicating effectively, developing others, developing organizational talent, managing performance, and skillset growth.
  • Develop and implement effective change management strategies and provide guidance on resources, processes, and tools.
  • Recruit and build a strong LEaD team.
  • Lead the development, design, and implementation of innovative early career, professional, and leadership development programs, tools, and processes.
  • Use formal analysis and feedback mechanisms to evaluate the efficacy of programs and services.
  • Manage day-to-day talent development programs and budget, including the identification of internal/external development opportunities.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Learning & Development, Organizational Development, or other related fields
  • 10+ years of experience with adult learning, learning & development, facilitation, and/or training environments.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Arts or Science in Human Resources, Learning, and Development, Organizational Development, or other related fields.
  • 5+ years building and leading a team.
  • Exceptional leadership skills including demonstrated ability to influence and lead results-oriented change, innovation, and customer focus while fostering relationships and leading people.
