Position Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (details of the basic job functions):

The Sr. Mgr, Cloud Engineering will provide thought leadership, design, and implementation standards / guidance to cross-functional teams across the enterprise. This role will deliver highly resilient, cost effective designs and implementation, and will be responsible for the strategic direction for all Infrastructure Platforms and Cloud Infrastructure Technologies enterprise-wide, as well as developing solution architectures for, and delivery of, major initiatives.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to achieve organizational goals
  • Assist in the development of functional strategy and its implementation
  • Interact with internal and/or external leaders, including senior management
  • Persuade others into agreement in sensitive situations while maintaining positive relationships
  • Propel design, standards and culture of DevOps and automation to create speed and efficiency
  • Be an advocate for change within ITIO and with business clients

The role requires strong relationships with VP, AVP & Director level solution owners in IT Security, Shared Services, Enterprise Architecture, and Application Delivery. This leader is expected to:

  • Build a high-performing team and be responsible for management activities including recruiting, development, performance management, compensation
  • Engage with C-Level executives to articulate value proposition of enterprise cloud strategy and cloud native infrastructure and application architecture
  • Partner with PMO, Development team/solution owners, Shared Services, and project teams to develop and implement plans and procedures to maximize the value proposition of cloud platforms and cloud native infrastructure and application architecture
  • Support the creation of IT strategies and roadmaps within the cloud domain based on business strategy, business and IT trends, and current and future architectures.
  • Effectively communicate and influence others towards future-state solutions, architecture patterns, architecture reference models, technology reference models and implementation reference models. Evangelize the purpose and value of cloud native infrastructure and applications and cloud platforms.
  • Partner with the Chief Architect, Business, Application, Information, Integration, and Infrastructure architects, to help position appropriate usage of technology for enterprise and segment solutions.
  • Performs complex analysis of system capabilities and provide consultation on cloud native solutions to development teams/solution owners who run in legacy platform or in monolithic architecture

Provides leadership to experienced managerial and professional staff with strong technical acumen

Required Qualifications (these are the minimum requirements to qualify)

Education (include minimum education and any licensing/certifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent level of work experience. (10+ years in technical leadership roles if not degreed.)

Experience:

  • 10+ years of broad IT experience across cloud platform, infrastructure, middleware, security and applications
  • 3+ years of experience in leading architecture team
  • 3+ years of experience in leading cloud architecture team
  • 3+ years of strong experience with GCP services such Google Compute (Kubernetes Engine), Storage (Cloud storage, Persistent disk), Security, network, Identity

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and solid understanding of other cloud computing platforms like AWS.
  • Strong acumen in contains (i.e.: Docker), container management (i.e. Kubernetes, GKE), container security, management tools, logging and monitoring and solid understanding of other container management tools like Openshift
  • Strong proficiency in developing self-service cloud model to the application development and solution owner communities
  • Deep understanding of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Container as a service (CaaS), function as a service (FaaS) and software as a service (SaaS)
  • Deep awareness of networking concepts like VPC, Load balancing, firewall, routing
