Position Overview

Pontiac Correctional Center is looking for a professional Corrections Maintenance Craftsman. The ideal candidate will be able to perform preventative maintenance and repair of institutional buildings, appliances, equipment, machinery, and vehicles associated with the facility. Additionally, the person selected for this position will instruct and train individuals in custody assigned to perform building maintenance duties. Essential Functions

• Performs maintenance work at journeyman level in repair of facility buildings, equipment and machinery.
• Monitors individuals in custody in performing basic maintenance duties on facility buildings and equipment.
• Maintains daily and monthly count of tools and equipment utilized during shift.
• Performs journeyman level maintenance work in the fabrication and repair of steel components, including bar gates, catwalks, cages and related items.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
• Requires experience necessary to qualify as a journeyman in one of the maintenance or automotive repair trades.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefers at least three (3) years of experience repairing buildings, equipment, and machinery.
• Prefers at least three (3) years of experience monitoring staff in performance of basic maintenance duties.
• Prefers at least three (3) years of experience maintaining tool and equipment counts.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
• Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
