Description

 Job Overview
The Executive Director of Athletics provides oversight in strategic leadership for all FBISD's comprehensive athletics program,and is responsible for shaping the long-term vision, culture, and operational excellence of athletics across the district. This role provides high-level oversight, policy direction, and organizational leadership to ensure world-class athletic opportunities that promote safety, equity, compliance, and student-athlete achievement. The Executive Director ensures alignment with all University Interscholastic League (UIL) standards; federal, state, and local regulations; district policy; and national best practices. The Executive Director is responsible for elevating the district's athletic program to the next level through strategic planning, innovation, talent development, resource optimization, and systemwide collaboration.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Strategic Operations

  • Establish and lead a districtwide strategic vision for athletics that aligns with FBISD’s mission, instructional priorities, and long-range organizational goals.
  • Provide high-level leadership to the Director of Athletics and other athletic staff to ensure consistent program quality, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Build and oversee frameworks, systems, and structures that support high-performing athletic programs, coaching excellence, and student-athlete development.
  • Lead districtwide planning initiatives, including athletic program innovations, pathway design, talent pipelines, and competitive readiness across all sports.
  • Direct development of the district’s athletic master calendar and scheduling systems; ensure alignment of staffing, transportation, facilities, and event logistics.
Compliance & Eligibility Governance
  • Serve as the senior compliance officer for athletics, ensuring districtwide adherence to UIL Constitution & Contest Rules, Title IX, Texas Education Code §33, and all relevant federal, state, and local mandates.
  • Develop governance systems and accountability structures that ensure the integrity of athletic operations, eligibility processes, and academic support for student-athletes.
  • Oversee districtwide training and certification programs to ensure all personnel understand and meet compliance expectations.
  • Review and resolve complex compliance issues, investigations, and escalated eligibility matters, providing direction to the Director of Athletics and other athletic staff including campus leaders.
Facilities & Event Management Leadership
  • Provide strategic oversight of athletic facility planning, capital improvement priorities, and long-term investment strategies in partnership with district leadership, Facilities, and Business Services.
  • Establish system wide standards for athletic venue safety, accessibility, design, maintenance, and event readiness.
  • Oversee districtwide athletic event management protocols and ensure high-quality execution of major athletic events, playoffs, and hosted tournaments.
Communications, Partnerships & Community Engagement
  • Serve as the district’s senior ambassador for athletics, advancing the visibility, reputation, and community trust of FBISD athletic programs.
  • Lead engagement with parents, community organizations, booster clubs, youth sports leagues, business partners, and regional/state athletic associations.
  • Collaborate with district leaders to create strategic messaging, highlight student and program achievements, and build a strong brand for FBISD athletics.
  • Champion a culture of sportsmanship, equity, inclusion, and student-centered support across all athletic environments.
Finance, Resource Strategy & Operational Controls
  • Provide executive oversight of the district’s athletic budget, ensuring fiscal stewardship, transparency, and alignment with strategic goals.
