A Physical Therapy Assistant plays a critical role in helping patients improve balance, reduce dizziness, and prevent falls by implementing treatment plans designed by a licensed physical therapist. This role requires strong patient care skills, attention to safety, the ability to guide therapeutic exercise programs, and effective communication with both patients and the supervising therapist. The Physical Therapy Assistant supports patient progress while helping ensure efficient, compassionate, and consistent therapy services.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement treatment plans and therapeutic exercises as directed by the supervising physical therapist
- Guide patients through balance training activities such as single-leg stance, heel-to-toe walking, and use of balance equipment
- Assist patients with vestibular rehabilitation exercises to help manage dizziness and inner ear-related disorders
- Teach patients techniques to help prevent falls and improve safety during mobility at home and in the community
- Introduce and monitor the use of therapeutic tools and equipment such as balance boards, foam pads, and resistance bands
- Observe patient performance and progress during therapy sessions and report updates or concerns to the supervising physical therapist
- Document patient activities, responses, and progress in accordance with clinic standards and applicable regulations
- Support a clean, safe, and organized treatment environment for patients and staff
Communicate professionally with patients, families, providers, and team members
- Assist with scheduling coordination, preparation of treatment areas, and other clinic support tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program required
- Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant required
- CPR certification preferred or required based on clinic policy
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of SCN'S salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
