The Opportunity
We are seeking a Director of Federal Government Affairs to lead Flock Safety’s engagement with federal policymakers, agencies, and key influencers. This role will develop and execute a comprehensive federal strategy to position Flock as a leader in public safety innovation and navigate the evolving legislative and regulatory landscape. The Director will play a pivotal role in shaping policy, building partnerships, and advocating for initiatives that align with Flock’s mission and business goals.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of federal government processes, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of influencing policy outcomes.
Responsibilities
Develop and Execute Federal Strategy
Define and implement a comprehensive federal affairs strategy that aligns with Flock Safety’s priorities.
Advocate for policies and initiatives that support public safety technology, including license plate recognition (LPR), AI, and public safety appropriations.
Monitor and address legislative and regulatory developments, including potential impacts from trade policies, national security concerns, and technology standards.
Stakeholder Engagement
Cultivate relationships with federal agencies, Congressional members, and key influencers to advance Flock’s mission.
Identify and engage lobbying firms to support legislative and regulatory objectives.
Activate third-party voices, including national law enforcement organizations, advocacy groups, and think tanks, to amplify Flock’s message.
Advocacy and Policy Shaping
Educate policymakers on key issues such as 4th Amendment considerations, digital license plates, and country-of-origin requirements.
Advocate for appropriations for federal and state public safety programs, and emerging technologies like drones and real-time policing tools.
Shape the narrative by drafting talking points, policy proposals, and hearing testimony.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with the Government Relations (GR), communications, and commercial teams to align federal advocacy efforts with broader organizational goals.
Collaborate with external lobbying firms to draft legislation, secure agency support, and navigate complex regulatory environments.
PAC Development and Management
Assess the need for a Political Action Committee (PAC) and recommend a structure that supports Flock’s objectives.
Build relationships with policymakers through targeted contributions and community engagement
The Skillset
Must be based in the DC area
Extensive experience in federal government affairs, public policy, or lobbying, preferably within the technology or public safety sector.
Strong understanding of federal legislative and regulatory processes, including key agencies like DHS, DOJ, FCC, and DOT.
