GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

• Under the oversight of the manager, plans, directs, supervises and ensures quality performance of all patient care provided by the department staff.
• Monitors and evaluates work performance of department personnel and provides direct feedback on performance issues to the employee and the manager.  
• Responsible for evaluating assigned staff.  Maintains appropriate staffing levels based on department's workload forecasting model. 
• Balances time and effort between supervising and performing patient care.
• Provides general and emergency respiratory therapy procedures to patients as directed by physicians or protocol. 
• Demonstrates ability to recognize change in patient conditions and makes independent judgments and modifies care as necessary, according to departmental standard and approved physician protocols.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• License to practice respiratory care from the Idaho Board of Medicine required. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification required.
• Three years clinical experience required, preferably in a critical care or emergency department preferred.
• Basic Life Support for Healthcare provider's certification from either AHA, ARC or the Military Training Network is required at hire in all units, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS as defined in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
• ACLS/PALS within 6 months of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric as applicable).
• Revenue management: ensures the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.
• Demonstrates the ability to recognize changes in the patient's condition, make independent judgments, and modify the care as necessary according to departmental standards and approved physician protocols.
• With high degree of competence, performs all aspects of respiratory care delivered at this facility.
• Monitors the proper utilization of all Respiratory Care systems. Adjusts staffing levels to meet workload demands.
• Functions as a resource therapist, assisting with patient are as needed.
• Carries a partial workload and/or assist with starting new patient care activity.
• Confers with RT Manager/Director and RT Coordinators to identify educational programs to maintain and develop skills of respiratory care personnel.
• Performs annual employee performance appraisals as assigned by manager.
