Role Description:

Arcadis is seeking a Wetland Biologist/Ecologist Intern for our Sewickley, PA office. We are looking for a biologist/ecologist to participate in field data collection efforts associated with wetlands delineations, endangered species habitat assessments, and environmental assessments. The position requires a foundational understanding of stream/wetland determination/delineation methods, and plant identification skills specific to the Northeast area. This role will support several Arcadis clients in the Northeastern United States, including various energy development projects, including electrical transmission, natural gas pipeline and renewable energy projects.

Role accountabilities:

As an Wetland Biologist/Ecologist Intern your daily duties will likely involve supporting the environmental assessment and permitting process for various projects. You may find yourself conducting field surveys to assess the impact of proposed developments on aquatic resources, gathering and analyzing biological data, and contributing to the preparation of reports and supporting documents utilized in the filing of state and federal permits. Additionally, you may assist in reviewing and interpreting relevant environmental regulations and guidelines, helping to ensure that proposed projects comply with legal requirements and environmental best practices. Your role may also involve collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate ecological and socio-economic considerations into project planning and permitting processes.

In the office, you may be involved in data organization, report writing, and contributing to permit applications, helping to communicate the ecological and biological aspects of proposed projects to regulatory authorities. Your day-to-day duties will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the intersection between ecology, biology, environmental science, and the regulatory permitting process, offering valuable insights into the practical application of environmental principles within the context of project development and sustainability.

As an Wetland Biologist/Ecologist Intern, your list of duties may include:

  • Support field efforts including wetland determination/delineation surveys, flora/fauna surveys, and habitat assessments; as well as the completion of associated reporting
  • Supporting the communication of ecological and biological aspects of proposed projects to regulatory authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Research and writing tasks as necessary to support a wide range of report and permitting tasks. 
  • Travel, including overnight, will be required to project sites
  • Assist with writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda

 

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or closely related field
  • Foundational technical writing skills and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments, simultaneously alone and as part of the project team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to collect data electronically
  • Experience using GPS field technology
  • Species-specific training or experience
