POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Director, Development, the Director of Events oversees the strategic planning and execution of fundraising-focused events for donors and prospects. Working across the Development department, and collaborating closely with hospital and Development senior leaders, the Director will create a high-performing events program that builds on past successes and sets a vision for the future. This candidate will be a strategic thinker, a revenue driver, a problem solver, a team player, and an astute manager, directing a dedicated team of event specialists and shaping the work of departmental collaborators. Initiative, drive, creativity, positivity, flexibility and excellent communication and organizational skills are an absolute must for success in this position.

Schedule: Full Time - Hybrid, with regular in-office, and on-site presence required.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Create strategic plan for Development events in collaboration with Major Gifts and Corporate Partnership teams to meet monetary and non-monetary goals including expanding bases of support, driving sponsorship and solicitations from individuals and corporations, engaging hospital boards and lead volunteers, and executing ancillary fundraising activities.

  • Establish and maintain quantitative and qualitative event metrics to provide regular status updates to leadership, evaluate outcomes, inform future events, maximize efficiency and return on investment, and support the development of financial projections and organizational planning. Infuses new ideas and processes to improve current events and proposes new programming to meet the organization’s evolving goals.

  • Oversee a small portfolio of signature event donors. Solicit, steward and cultivate donors as needed throughout the donor cycle.

  • Play a leadership role in managing event committees and co-chairs, partnering with Corporate and Major Gift team colleagues on goals for engagement, identification, and management.

  • Establish systems for evaluating success post-event and soliciting feedback from key stakeholders.

  • Develop hospital leader event strategy to maximize engagement with donors and stakeholders; inform and engage hospital leadership through timely and accurate briefings.

  • Coach and mentor direct reports and oversee consultants and contractors in the planning and execution of signature fundraising events.

  • Oversee the team in providing event planning and logistical support for cultivation events.

  • Deliver exceptional guest experience from registration through program execution, partnering with internal teams on messaging goals, use of technology, and more.

  • Provide strategic thinking and execution on leveraging events to support relationship building and revenue growth beyond BMC with BMCHS’s two newly added hospitals: BMC Brighton and BMC South.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and at least 10 years of non-profit event management experience, eight years of which must include managing team members and driving event revenue; or equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Non-profit fundraising experience in complex organizations such as higher education or health care.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs):

  • Proven track record in driving revenue through events

  • Familiarity with fundraising and events software, such as Raiser’s Edge NXT, GiveSmart, Whova, and others

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams to complete projects on time and within budget constraints; builds consensus and fosters a sense of teamwork

  • Strong executive presence

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Resourcefulness, creativity, adaptability and flexibility required
