Under the supervision of the Program Manager, Clinical Director, and Bariatric Surgeons. To oversee the development and implementation of the nutritional component to a surgical bariatric program. Involves providing nutritional care to patients in various disease states and conditions. Monitors, assesses, and optimizes nutrition status based on current medical condition and/or nutrition adequacy. Confers with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate medical and nutritional needs and recommend(s) tube and intravenous feedings and / or dietary supplements. Educates patients on how to make nutritionally sound food choices to speed the recovery process, prevent disease and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues / problems without precedent and / or structure.
The Dietitian HC will also be the MBS (Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery) Coordinator and play a vital role within the accredited center. Managing programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources. This position requires an advanced level of expertise and overall understanding of Bariatric Surgery/Minimally Invasive Surgery. Responsibilities involve coordination of interdisciplinary medical care and outcomes under the direction of the Section Chief; liaison functions with patient, family, medical staff, referring physicians and insurance companies; individualized patient/family teaching; assessment of appropriate medical intervention for effective use of resources, pathways, and protocols, and lead quality assurance projects annually. The Dietitian HC will administer the MBS Committee, facilitate all meetings, and manage the accreditation process to ensure compliance with MBSAQIP Standards. Additional responsibilities include data collection for clinical management and maintenance of a patient database of all Bariatric patients and patients in the registry, development of educational materials and programs for patients, nursing staff and physicians. Develop clinical protocols, policies and procedures, community education with the Bariatric team. Participate in quality improvement projects as assigned
