Summary/Objective
As a part of the New Student and Family Programs team, the Graduate Assistant supports the design and implementation of effective orientation activities, resources and programs that prepare students to become successful members of the AU community while engaging with their families as partners. As a department in the Division of Student Affairs, we work to intentionally guide, challenge and support students as they grow and thrive as members of the AU community on campus and beyond.
Essential Functions
The Graduate Assistant directly supports the Assistant Director for Orientation within the strategic priorities and framework set by the Director of New Student and Family Programs. As a part of the NSFP team, this position’s responsibilities support orientation programming, staffing, assessment and evaluation and social/digital content.
Specifically, the Graduate Assistant:

Attends and actively supports online and in-person programming including Winter Orientation (hybrid), online New Eagle Essentials, in-person Orientation, Welcome Week programming and Family Weekend. These will include occasional weekend and evening hours.

At the direction of the Assistant Director, Orientation, the graduate assistant coordinates seasonal recruitment, selection and training for 30-50 student orientation leaders.

Collaborate with the entire staff to develop, publish, and monitor social media content to engage new students (orientation accounts) and families (official family Facebook account).

Assists the Assistant Director, Orientation with assessment and evaluation so to better support student engagement and successful onboarding.
Compensation and Modality

$18 per hour, 20 hours per week

Hybrid work modality. This position will require occasional evening/weekend hours.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree is required

Strong communication skills.

Demonstrated experience generating engaging social media content required; experience in monitoring and analyzing performance preferred

Ability to learn new applications independently. This position will require the use of several applications including: various social media platforms, Microsoft Office suite tools (especially Excel and Planner), basic web editing, Canva and Canvas.

Experience in and/or working with orientation and/or student activities in higher education preferred
