POSITION SUMMARY:


With a strong working knowledge of Supply Chain operations, with specific focus on Transportation Planning and Management, this role serves as the subject matter expert for Transportation Management Systems. The Transportation Manager should have a strong understanding of TMS implementation with experience in configuration, planning, and optimization software to conduct freight planning, scheduling, tracking and other analysis. The Transportation Manager will oversee the daily planning and execution of transportation of inbound and intra-facility materials and goods through the Supply Chain. This role will be responsible for executing daily shipments, managing contract carrier, and private fleet utilization. The Transportation Manager partners with manufacturing and distribution Operations, Procurement, IT, Safety, and transportation partners to manage Clayton’s truck, rail, and ocean inbound and intra-facility delivery network. The Transportation Manager will be responsible for developing and executing future strategies regarding our transportation network.


ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Participating in cross-functional teams in the design, testing and implementation of TMS software solutions.
• Collaborate with Procurement to perform freight conversion analysis to move vendors from Prepaid to Collect freight terms
• Manage end to end inbound process from freight booking, planning, routing, execution, and scheduling to ensure shipments are delivered on time and accurate. Full ownership of transportation operational performance, KPI's, and cost targets for our strategic vendor partners.
• Own freight profitability and cost optimization for entire transportation network. Drive continuous improvement and efficiencies throughout the transportation network.
• Reviewing production planning and understanding customer needs to ensure adequate capacity with carrier network.
• Manage and resolve daily shipment exceptions.
• Analyzing orders and planning shipment activity using TMS.
• Creating Carrier Dashboards, KPI’s and measuring Carrier Compliance.
• Enhancing carrier utilization while maintaining customer service and on time deliveries. Building and maintaining carrier relationships.
• Develops, recommends, and implements pricing strategies that contribute to low cost, quality transportation services that meets or exceeds customer service requirements.
• Manage the proper implementation and maintenance of freight pricing and freight payment/audit for all modes


BACKGROUND REQUIRED:


• Operations / Logistics / Distribution management in transportation (+5 years)
• Supervising and managing a team (+3 years)
• Experience configuring, and/or integrating freight transportation management system (TMS), preferably Oracle or another leading TMS (JDA/Blue Yonder, Oracle OTM, Manhattan, MercuryGate, etc.) is required.
• Experience using analytics and metrics to assess Transportation optimization performance, carrier performance and operational performance to identify and quantify improvement opportunities.
• Experience with tactical supply chain planning processes such as carrier capacity planning, transportation planning, and network planning
• Experience with transportation management, carrier management, fleet management, and driver management
• Comprehensive knowledge of regulations impacting daily operations (i.e. national / state level DOT regulations)
• Oversite of load planning and execution within TMS.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain or Logistics Management


BACKGROUND PREFERRED:


• Project Management background, training, or certifications
• Education: Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain Management
