Job Description
AECOM is seeking actively seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineering Intern to be based in Virginia Beach, VA. Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning. This internship is specifically focused on providing students an understanding of managing multiple and various elements of engineering projects and programs.
The responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to:
- Work under supervision of a program manager.
- Perform assignments requiring the application of skills and knowledge gained in through engineering courses and leadership activities. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
- Exercise judgment with supervision.
- Prepare tools and processes to assist in program/project progression and efficiency.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Must have completed 1 year of study in the applicable program.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in successful leadership of teams is a plus.
- Academic track with an emphasis in water systems (stormwater, drinking water or wastewater).
- Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering concepts through coursework or work experience.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong logic skills and writing skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work productively in a collaborative team environment and demonstrate growth potential as well as a desire to learn.
- Detail-oriented, while still able to understand and comply with the big picture/goals of a project.
- A strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn, and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Accurate documentation of time and effort.
- Valid Driver’s License preferred to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.

- Relocation assistance and/or per diem is not offered for this position.
- This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Virginia Beach, VA. The selected candidate must be available to work in Virginia Beach, VA on a scheduled basis.
- Sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Non-Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation (Virginia locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The hourly range for this position is $16.52 - $22.71.
