· Oversee the full cycle of accounting processes for assigned properties, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and month-end/year-end closing activities.· Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of financial operations.
· Reconcile and balance financial data, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established accounting principles.
· Collaborate with property managers to ensure accurate and timely recording of property-related transactions, such as rent payments, expenses, and capital expenditures.
· Post monthly journal entries and assist property managers with reclassification adjustments.
· Maintain internal accounting work papers for assigned properties; review monthly and quarterly accounting workpapers prepared by team members, ensuring reasonable support for balance sheet accounts and accurate financial statement presentation.
· Prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly financial statements to property managers and senior management.
· Collaborate with property managers to monitor and analyze property-level financial performance, identifying trends and recommending strategies for improving profitability and cost-efficiency.
· Lead and participate in the annual budgeting process for multifamily properties; ensure accuracy of data provided by the residential property accounting team, including, but not limited to: depreciation and amortization projections, debt service and accounting fees.
· Work closely with auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
· Stay updated on industry regulations, accounting standards, and tax requirements related to property management to ensure compliance.
· Support other finance-related tasks and projects, as assigned by the CFO, Controller or Director of Property Accounting.
Our Ideal Candidate
· Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and their application to real estate operations· Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI) and Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting· Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management· Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present financial information to non-financial stakeholders· Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies and recommend solutions· Knowledge of property management industry practices· Demonstrate effective, courteous communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills· The ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism· Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form· Ability to operate in a constant state of alertness, and safe manner· Knowledge and practice of Company standard operating procedures and related policies, procedures and lawsMinimum Qualifications:
· Minimum number of years: At least five years of related accounting experience, property management experience preferred
