How will you contribute to the team?

This position requires an individual who is self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as leading a group on tasks related to Process System design for the Balance of Nuclear Steam Plant.

The candidate shall be able to complete the assigned steam systems design related scopes or tasks and develop necessary engineering design documentation as required.

  • Develops, plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates engineering work.

  • Provides technical guidance and leadership to engineers at lower grade levels and/or other technical employees.

  • Coordinates and review the work of engineers and support employees.

  • Provides design solutions and assessments for new, updated, and modified process systems, and components.

  • Performs design and analysis for turbine steam cycle, condenser performance, steam jet air ejectors and thermal hydraulic systems. Evaluate moisture separate heater and feed water heater thermal performance.

  • Performs process equipment such as vessels, tanks, shell & tube heat exchangers, pumps and valves sizing calculation including heat transfer calculation.

  • Prepares design documents for Nuclear Power Plants, e.g., Design Calculation, Assessments, Technical Specifications, Drawings, Bill of Materials, and System Code Classification.

  • Prepares Engineering packages.

  • Performs walkdowns, attend site visits and meetings as required.

  • Ensures applicable code, standards and regulatory requirements are met.

  • Provides support for the preparation of Engineering proposals.

  • Ensures adherence to company quality program.

  • Ensures adherence to project delivery requirements and schedule.

  • Supports Engineering Management with timely updates on engineering progress.

  • Interfaces with internal and external stake holders as required.

What will you contribute?  

  • Engineering degree from an accredited university, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering.

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in design related to nuclear industry, with particular emphasis on Balance of Nuclear Steam Plant and Balance of Plant systems such as:

    • Main Turbine and Turbine Auxiliary System

    • Turbine Bypass System

    • Moisture Separating Reheating System.

    • Main Condenser and Condenser Auxiliary System.

    • Condensate and Feed Water Heating Systems

    • Circulating water System

  • PE License.

  • Experience performing heat balance and thermalhydraulic evaluations on Nuclear power plant steam cycle. Working knowledge of software tools such as Thermoflex or equivalent will be an asset.

  • Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards.

  • Knowledge of analytical tools used for mechanical and process design, e.g., ANSYS, Mathcad, Flowmaster, NUCIRC, CATHENA or similar.

  • Experience performing work to nuclear power plants procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities.

  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Eligible for Security Clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).

  • Must have excellent technical and practical skills to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.

  • Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Working knowledge of/experience using nuclear Codes and Standards.

  • Experience performing work to nuclear power plants procedures and practices and qualifications for nuclear power plants engineering activities.
