Job Description
The Director of Business Development is responsible for developing and implementing new sales plans for the set of lab services supported by the LGC sites in Gainesville, FL; Middleton, WI; and Berlin, Germany. The Director will gather and analyze different statistics to determine sales potential and monitor the preferences of customers, converting that into actionable plans to increase sales. This homebased role will also lead and manage a focused team of sales and sales operations professionals, based throughout the U.S., to meet its designed commercial business goals.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and make necessary contributions to the achievement of quarterly and annual company sales targets.
- Develop, execute, and review sales strategies to drive growth and revenue.
- Research and develop marketing opportunities and plans, understand consumer requirements, identify market trends, and suggest system improvements to achieve the company's marketing goals.
- Identify and acquire new clients and partnerships to grow the business, as well as extract more value from current clients.
- Gather, investigate, and summarize market data and trends to draft reports.
- Manage key customer deals and relationships. Resolve customer complaints regarding sales and service.
- Maintain record of Sales and BD activities on LIMS, SalesForce and other relevant databases.
- Collaborate and coordinate with other departments to achieve any of the above as needed.
- Travel for in-person sales meetings, presentations and conferences.
- Represent company at trade association meetings to promote products.
- Manage direct reports and create the appropriate conditions for them to carry out their responsibilities successfully.
- Stay current in the industry by attending educational opportunities, conferences, and workshops, reading publications, and maintaining personal and professional networks.
Qualifications
WORKING KNOWLEDGE:
- Sales and Marketing - Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems
- Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
- Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
- English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
- Personnel and Human Resources - Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, and staff management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Sciences, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field
- 2 plus years of experience in marketing and/or sales
- 2 years of supervisory experience in a marketing and /or sales department
- Experience working for a life sciences company in a sales role
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate degree in Sciences, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field.
- Proven skillset as a strong collaborator and business partner.
- Strong background working with suppliers through life cycle management.
Additional Information
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position often requires working hours outside of these standard operating hours, including weekend work, especially during certain business cycles.
