Senior Director-Operational Smart Grids

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $195,000 - $268,000

JOB SUMMARY:

• The Senior Director of Operational Smart Grids is responsible for smart grid platforms, operational technologies, and associated compliance programs for AVANGRID utility operating companies in multiple operating jurisdictions. 

• Systems include but are not limited to energy control, outage management, SCADA, advanced metering infrastructure, telecommunications, and other associated Smart Grids technologies. 

• Responsible for a staff of over 220 internal employees split across our service territory (NY, ME, and CT). 

• The team comprises internal employees at the levels of Directors, Senior Managers, Managers, Supervisors, Project & Program Managers, Analysts, and Engineers.

• Budgetary responsibilities above $100 million.  

• Ensures the enterprise can support new technology and maintain high levels of service.

• Reports directly to the VP of Processes & Technology.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for the design and support of critical Electric/Gas Operation systems.

• Direct support for all Critical Energy Control Center systems.

• Provides resilient and secure network, storage, and computer platforms.

• Supports environments by increasing operational efficiencies, security, and compliance.

• Performs time-bound compliance tracking, postmortem analysis, and compliance guidance with training procedures, investigations, and audits.

• Specialist support for digital equipment (telecom, control systems, automation, and smart metering).

• Operate, maintain, and upgrade the Telecom Network.

• Maintain Critical Systems and Critical Operational Technology Infrastructure.

• Maintain AMI Systems.

• Define strategy, enterprise planning, and compliance of critical systems.

• Ensure Operational Technology Compliance with Regulatory Standards.

• Execute & Support OT Projects/Programs (RTS, Telecom, AMI).

• Direct aspects of the electric and gas control center, advanced metering and applications development, integration, maintenance, support, and lifecycle management.

• Ensure robust enterprise operational governance processes across technology domains.

• Ensure full attainment of system performance, availability recoverability, and compliance requirements with applicable regulatory standards.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

• Engineering degree (Electrical, Mechanical, or equivalent).

• Master’s degree in technical field and/or MBA preferred.

• Must have 15 or more years of related experience.

• Broad-based experience in complex technology management and/or other related areas.

• Prior management and leadership experience.

• Working knowledge of the regulatory environment for utility companies including NERC Compliance Standards.

Skills/Abilities:

• Advanced leadership and communication skills.

• Highly developed ability to resolve complex problems and negotiate successful outcomes

• Ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders

• Strong understanding of related operational technologies 

• Strong understanding of gas and electric network operations

• Experience leading enterprise multi-utility, cross-functional, and cross-cultural teams

General Management: This is a senior-level management position with enterprise functional responsibilities across all AVANGRID utility operating companies. The position is responsible for multiple layers of geographically dispersed skilled technical staff and external service providers. The candidate must have advanced management and leadership skills, be skilled in vendor negotiations, and have executive-level presentation and communication skills.
