Job Specific Working Conditions:

Young Life Capernaum San Jose is looking to add a full-time Capernaum Staff Associate to our team. With an experienced team already in place, we are looking for someone to join us in doing multiethnic ministry in an urban, non-Christian context.

We do have potential for affordable housing that can be discussed with the Area Director. Young Life San Jose Capernaum is the founding Capernaum area in all of Young Life. We are 34 years old as an area and have the resource of our own facility with office space. Our dream is that every special needs teenager will be invited into life with Jesus by a friend (leader) whom they know and trust. The Area Director has been on staff for 20 years and has done YL College, High School, Wyldlife and Capernaum. We have an adult Committee of 8 currently. Our area has also helped start Young Life College at San Jose State as a future pool for volunteer leaders and helpers.

Salary ranges from 48,000-67,500 including a cost of living adjustment. Compensation is negotiable depending on experience and fundraising capacity.

Summary:
Through both formal training and direct field ministry experience, learn how to effectively carry out and manage Young Life ministry.


Ministry Functions:
Spiritual Development — “Following Jesus” includes prayer and spiritual disciplines, fellowship, growth and health and church relationships.
  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.

  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of active participation in a church community.

  • Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community.

  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.


  • Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.
  • Meet with your volunteer leaders and area leadership on a regular basis.

  • Learn to recruit and train new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the community.

  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners and camping to other leaders.

  • Assist in training leaders, team leaders and committee how to work effectively in teams and develop a yearly ministry strategy.


  • Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and TDS team.
  • Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.
