About the role

JOB SUMMARY

The Business Development Manager, Medical & Scientific Communications supports and contributes to marketing team with client deliverables, slide decks, project kickoffs, and statement of work (SOW) proposal development.  Other marketing services support may include supporting client services budget review/adjustments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Relations and Business Management

Create and work to establish meaningful, professional relationships with internal Simpson team and client stakeholders. Seek to develop understanding of medical communications industry and client’s business. Ensure Simpson’s brand is properly represented and promoted throughout client interactions, communications, and deliverables Collaborate with supervisor to Identify and pull through new business opportunities with targeted accounts. Ensure external meetings are successful and a positive experience for existing and prospective new clients.

Work Deliverables

Responsible for management of assigned accounts and/or tasks for accounts ensuring that our deliverables meet client expectations, strategically, and within a target budget (if there is one known). Communicate effectively with other Simpson internal teams and third-party vendors regarding project strategy, assumptions and needs to deliver a well thought out recommendation and proposal, with realistic timelines Manage and prioritize assigned marketing deliverables to ensure timely quality deliverable within expected timeline requested. Adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and drive internal team collaboration, where needed, while ensuring appropriate levels of internal sign off. Develop strong working knowledge of overall business and detailed knowledge of assigned products, disease areas, and brand and company strategy and goals.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare weekly timesheet. Manage and attend relevant internal meetings, as assigned. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE

  • Strong communicator both in written and verbal forms with a proven ability to effectively establish and nurture client relationships.

  • Experience with medical communications or pharmaceutical industry preferred

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong organization and time management skills.

  • Ability to leverage internal and external relationships to the benefit of the project, client, and Simpson.

  • Must be highly proficient and skilled at using Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.). Experience with Basecamp or similar project management systems is preferred

  • Extensive skills with web-conferencing tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams

  • Great team player with a strong drive and willingness to take initiative

  • Curiosity and aptitude for continuous thinking, learning and collaboration

  • Develop written contracts and proposals for current clients.

  • Participate in team thinking and brainstorming activities

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably with emphasis in Marketing, Business, Science or related discipline Req

  • 7 years related experience Req Or

  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience Req

  • At least 3-5 years' experience in medical communications or relevant agency work, pharmaceutical or biotech environment.

  • At least 3-5 years' relevant sales experience.
