About the role

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud.  Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.

The Director of Operations Engineering - Datacenter Engineering will be a Mechanical or Electrical Professional Engineer with expertise in datacenter engineering. A team player able to work across a multi-disciplined engineering team and the teams operating the datacentersProviding engineering support to Microsoft Datacenter Operations teams globally and possessing the skills to work in a fast-paced multi-project environment. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in network topologies and communication protocols for both PLC and DDC controls systems. Having a firm understanding of the electrical distribution system design, over all mechanical design topologies, monitoring requirements for mission critical applications, along with mechanical system sequence of operation requirements and monitoring of all Datacenter HVAC control systems.

 

  

This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.  

  

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.  

  

This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to (50)%.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will fulfill a technical leadership role for Microsoft as a global datacenter Director of Ops Engineering. This role is part of Datacenter Engineering and will involve supporting the Operational Engineering of Microsoft’s fleet of datacenters globally. The successful candidate will be required to lead and direct internal subject matter experts and external consultants. This role will require deep knowledge in the design and coordination of the mechanical and electrical systems, associated controls and Microsoft’s overall datacenter design topologies
