The territory for this position is Midwest. Strongly prefer candidates currently residing in IL, IN, WI or MI.
SUMMARY:
The Director, State Government Affairs will be responsible for developing and managing strategic relationships with state legislators, regulators, health agency personnel, and patient advocacy organizations for an assigned region of the United States, ensuring patient access to therapies, optimize Lundbeck’s business environment, and secure reimbursement for Lundbeck products.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- In collaboration with State Policy, analyze and monitor proposed state legislation and/or regulations that would impact Lundbeck’s business interests
- Partner with commercial stakeholders to plan for new product launches and ensure Business Development is educated on the state legislative landscape
- Develop and recommend prudent courses of action based on his/her complete analysis of legislative and State regulatory proposals that are of major consequence and, as appropriate, execute direct lobbying activities with legislators and health agency staff.
- Coordinate state lobbying efforts with appropriate business units.. This includes overseeing consultant workplans and advocacy partnerships.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with elected state officials, legislators, regulators and state agency officials.
- Along with the VP, Government Affairs, represent the company in appropriate policy forums including (but not limited to) PhRMA and State industry organizations.
- Under the guidance of the Vice President, Government Affairs, coordinate with other functional areas to proactively inform and educate Lundbeck management and employees about significant and timely policy, regulatory or legislative developments.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS:
- Accredited Bachelor’s degree
- 10 years in government affairs, patient advocacy, consulting on regulatory or governmental affairs or roles in public service
- State-level government affairs experience
- Understanding of proprietary needs of launching products in State programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strategic thinking and ability to assess potential outcome scenarios
- Ability to muti-task and deliver work product under tight deadlines
- Ability to present information effectively and persuasively.
- Ability to cultivate strong relationships
- Must have the ability to work in close collaboration with cross functional partners in Federal Government Affairs, Finance, Corporate Affairs, Legal, Medical and Business Unit Market Access.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS:
- Prior experience in Government Relations within the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in neuroscience
- Third party Consultant management
- Ability to effectively navigate and leverage trade association relationships
TRAVEL:
- Willingness/Ability to travel up to 50% domestically. International travel may be required.
The range displayed is a national range, and if selected for this role, may vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s geographical location, qualifications, skills, competencies and proficiency for the role. Salary Pay Range: $200,000 - $245,000 and eligibility for a 25% bonus target based on company and individual performance, and eligibility to participate in the company’s long-term incentive plan.
