Summary-Certified Medical Assistant-Cancer Center-2-2, Breast/GYN, Endo-Durham, NC

 

Perform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties for the breast/gyn/endocrine oncology patient population.  This position assists medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure clinic runs smoothly.

 

Work Performed

Administrative duties may include the following:

Update and file patient medical records, complete insurance forms, billing information and handle other related correspondence.  Assist with medication prior authorizations.

Schedule appointments and arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services.

Perform other administrative duties as directed.

Clinic Duties may include the following:

Assist medical and nursing staff in a variety of tasks including: Taking medical histories and recording vital signs, rooming patients.

Assisting the physician during the examination and procedures.

Dispose of contaminated supplies. Sterilize medical instruments.

Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient record.

Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician. Authorize drug refills as directed and telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy.

Draw blood.

Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician, Advanced Practice Provider,  or nursing team.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.

Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.
