Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an Entry Level Environmental Scientist/Engineer for employment within our DCS – Environment Health and Safety Compliance group in the Minneapolis, Minnesota office to support our environmental compliance projects.  The ideal candidate will be a motivated individual interested in learning new skills through both collaborative team assignments and individual projects with oversight from experienced mentors.  Work assignments will include collection and evaluation of client environmental compliance data for preparation of regulatory agency reports and compliance records.  Interested candidates should have excellent communication and presentation skills.

The successful candidate will gain experience in their discipline through learning on the job, AECOM provided training courses and participating in development opportunities enabling professional growth. Candidate will complete projects including supporting experienced environmental compliance staff on annual inventory and reporting required by environmental agencies regarding air emissions, waste generation, hazardous materials, releases, and stormwater management; preparing and updating stormwater pollution prevention plans and oil spill prevention plans; and assisting clients with employee training and records management. After gaining experience on the underlying regulatory requirements, the candidate will provide increasing levels of services to clients including subject matter specialist support and environmental compliance auditing.

This position is expected to begin in Fall 2024.

Tasks will include:

  • Conducting environmental field work and site inspections, for multi-media environmental compliance such as stormwater, air, chemical management and spill prevention and waste management.
  • Participation in a health and safety team performing inspections, observations, and training.
  • Field document preparation, field data collection, processing, and interpretation.
  • Supporting office tasks, including data entry, data analysis, and report preparation.
  • Collect and record data and compare results to relevant studies and state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Travel to project locations including driving and overnight stays.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in, Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related field.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. 
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with excellent time-management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Familiarity with environmental or health and safety regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply environmental regulations to industrial or commercial applications.
  • Experience with facility environmental compliance or conducting Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments.
